Hello!

We finished up our measurement work this week with learning how to use ruler! A higher grade level achievement, was a lot of fun to measure things in our room.

We went over the letters G and H, reading our tracing books and adding to our letter book.

We practiced our drawing with bunnies and chicks!

We created a nice Easter bunny picture, using a paint background.

On Thursday we dyed some eggs and made baskets with our big buddies. The dye was not the best… Only red and purple worked. Next time paint! Everyone had a lot of fun, we ended the day with extra center time and bunny hats!

We have been learning about throwing and catching in gym this week, working on tracking objects through the sky.

Pizza and coffee orders went home for fund raising. April book orders are due next week, and May forms will be sent out soon.

Next week we will start learning about plants by growing beans, and our chicks will be hatching the week after. So much going on!

Enjoy the long weekend, and see you Tuesday.

Hello!

A big week for being so short. We had our open house on Thursday, where parents were invited to see what we have been learning about all year.

In math this week we went heavy with our measurments, using different units to measure classroom objects.

We created a shape collage using circles, triangles, squares, and rectangles. They are displayed outside our room.

We worked on the letters E and F, reading through our books, and adding them to our ABC books. No E art yet, as we have just started incubating our eggs, so soon we will have chicks!

Next week we will work on the letters G and H, and look more into chickens!

Hope you have a good weekend, and see you Monday.

Hello!

Welcome back! Hopefully everyone had a fun two weeks off. We got right back into it this week, with some new letter word.

We have started using printing and home reading letter books. We practice our printing on the lines, then read the simple sentences. This week we have looked at reading the words “I”, “am, “the”, “is”, and “little”. Each book adds a new word to practice, and will take us into June with our letters.

We have also started putting together our letter booklets. You will be able to see these during our open house next Thursday.

We have started looking into measurement this week, reading the book “Inch by inch”. We went around the room measuring things with our own “inch” work. We have also started looking into using different units to measure.

We made x is for x ray, and y is for yellow and yoyo. Almost finished off our alphabet art!

Next week we will be hosting an open house on Thursday, from 1130 to 1230, and 430 to 630. Come by to see what we have been working on, and some learning stations to participate in.

Enjoy your weekend and see you Monday.

Hello!

Our last week before the break, we finished off some projects, and worked on a lot of art projects.

We finished off our 3rd round of letters and sounds. We worked on ue, ar, and er sounds. With some of our extra free time, we worked on more letter art! K is for kangeroo, I is for unbrella, n is for number, and r is for rainbow.

Here are our Kangaroos, Umbrellas, and Rainbows!

With our r is for rainbow, we learned a lot about the colours of our rainbow, the primary red, yellow, and blue, and how they make orange, green, and purple, with an experiment!

We added red, yellow, and blue to every other cup, and placed paper towel between each. Students had to predict what colour the clear cups would turn.

The next day we watched how the colours of each primary colour crawled up the paper towel and mixed together to make secondary colours. It was fun to see the colour changes.

We also learned about leprechauns, and talked about ways to trap them! We made leprechaun faces, with writing things about about what makes us lucky!

We also finished off our work on bears, sharing our information with our KWL.

We also finished our b is for bear, and some pastel bears. They are currently displayed in our hallway.

We ended the week off with some aboriginal artwork with Ms. Chaves and performing our dancing for the school zumba.

Enjoy the next two weeks off, we will be back at it in April, with some home reading booklets and an open house the second week back!

Have a great break and see you in two weeks.

Hello!

It was great to see everyone at Gokdstream today. The field trip was a lot of fun, and our first real look at the beautiful natural world around us in Victoria. We went on a scanvenger nature hike, checked out the nature house, and had bannock and hot dogs for lunch. A couple hick ups, but overall a good learning experience.

We spend most of this week learning about bears, and talking about our “best hunt” at Goldstream. We didn’t find any bears, but saw a lot of other cool things.

Our KWL where we shared what we know about bears, and what we wonder about them.

And our best drawings.

We made some b is for bear art, and we will be using the pastels to draw more bears, and share our learning to put up on display for next week.

We worked on our 6, 7, and 8 number sheets, and spent more time with our independent writing.

Next week we will finish our work on bears, and report cards will be sent home. Thursday is the PAC luau dance in the evening, and Friday is sports jersey day. Should be a good last week before spring break.

Have a good weekend, and remember to set your clocks forward an hour on Sunday.

Hello!

We dove right into our journals this week, practicing more of our independent writing, by sounding out letters we hear. We wrote about our weekend, what foods we eat, and things we do at school.

We finished up our h is for hundred, and made C is for cat. We have almost finished all of our letter art for our booklets!

On Wednesday we created pink shirts and talked about pink shirt day. We added the pink shirts to our 100 acts of kindness board in the hall.

We looked more into shapes and the attributes that define them. We will finish up our work by trying to find different shapes in nature on Friday at Gokdstream Park.

Most have their permission slips handed in for our fieldtrip, should be a great time. We are planning some fun activities for the day.

We finished our family booklets by creating family trees. Some of the grade 5 leadership students came into our class and cut up our booklets to make posters of our work. They look great, and will be available for viewing during our open house.

With two weeks left before spring break we will be looking into bears, talking about measurment, and preparing for our dance performance on the 15th.

Hope you had a good weekend, and see you Monday!

Hello!

With the snow last week, not much happened with the one school day we had school, so one post for two weeks.

On Valentine’s day, we made huggable hearts and painting some snowy winter trees. They are on display on our window, for the community to see.

This week we talked more about healthy eating choices. We learned about different vegetables and fruit, and how we should be eating a balance meal, so treats are okay, but only a little bit at a time. We had a race to 100 this week with our healthy eating habits, it was a close race, but healthy eating won!

We also made V is for veggies and W is for watermelon art. I know the V has some fruit on it… We ran out of vegetable cut outs…

We also worked on our family booklets, with almost everyone finishing up their homework. We only have one more page to complete before we share our families with the rest of the class.

We started our independent writing journals, by using our sounding out powers to spell words independently. At first there was a lot of uncertainty, but after some experimentation, many of the students persevered. We will be doing more journal and independent writing in the next few weeks.

We started officially looking into shapes this week, talking about the properties of each, and where we see them in real life.

Friday was 100’s day! 100 days in school, and to celebrate we worked on many 100 day activities. We made h is for hundred, gluing 100 pieces of paper into an h in groups of 10 (so much work). We also made 100 day crowns, and worked on 100 day mazes. During our Friday hustle, the other K teachers led the school through 100 exercises, it was a lot of work.

As we are halfway through our kindness month, our class has started the 100 acts of kindness board, open to all K students, to show all of the kind acts that happen in our class. Lots of swing sharing going on. We will see if we manage to get 100 before Pink shirt day.

A field trip form went home today about a trip to Gokdstream park, for some nature exploration and bannock bbq. It will give us a chance to learn more about the natural world around us, as well as experience some traditional aboriginal food. Should be a fun time, as long as it doesn’t rain too much.

Have a good weekend, and see you Monday.

Hello!

A cold one this week, with our first big snowfall on Friday, very exciting.

We started working on letter sounds this week, the ai, oa, and ie sounds. We practiced using our letters to spell wait, bait, boat, moat, pie, and spied.

We worked more on our family bookers this week, by talking about how we help our families, how our families help is, what activities we like to do with our families, and where our families live.

More family work coming next week, with some homework for the long weekend.

We also finished off our penguin work this week. Sharing what we learned together. Spiky tongues was the most popular piece of information we learned.

We worked on some more throwing games in gym, playing angry birds. They are getting a lot better at distance and aim.

Our science experiment is going well. So far the dirty bun is looking gross. And the clean bun has started showing signs of mold. We have recorded our observations 3 times so far.

On Friday our big buddies came to our class and we all made Valentine’s day envelopes. They will hold our cards on Thursday, and come home after school.

A reminder about Valentine’s day, if you choose to give cards, remember to give to everyone. I have placed a class list in everyone’s home books.

Check the radio or sd62 Twitter for news on school closures, and hopefully see you on Monday. Enjoy the snow while you can!

Hello!

We have 2 new students, one last week and one on Wednesday. Although we also lost one who moved into the interior. Lots of change.

We worked on the letters o, u, l, f, and b this week, spelling words like fit, bun, ect. Next week we will start looking at specific two letter sounds, and practice more writing.

Our class made g is for giraffe and g is for fish art.

We have started looking at simple addition into what makes 5. We started making block towers of 5 using two colours, most make pattern towers which showed 3 + 2 = 5.

We have been learning so much about penguins, next week we will display our learning for the school to see in the hallway.

On Friday we learned about groundhogs day! We made weather predictors to show whether we believe the groundhog will see its shadow and hide for 6 more weeks of winter, or come out in the clouds to start foraging in the spring.

Next week we will look into Chinese New year, finish up our penguin work, discuss family differences and tranditions, and work on Valentine enveloped with our big buddies.

Speaking of Valentine’s day, I will be sending home a list of names in the class. If you choose to send cards, make sure everyone gets one.

Should be a fun week ahead, hope you have a good weekend and see you Monday.

Hello!

We had a great literacy event this week, with many guest readers come in, and our “dress as a book character” day was a lot of fun!

This week we looked at the letters h, r, m, d, and g. We spelled more words by sounding them out, such as hat, ram, dad, and get.

We worked on the numbers 4 and 5, getting reading to focus on ways to make 5 for the next two weeks.

We came up with a lot of good questions about what we want to learn about for penguins on Monday, they seem very keen on penguins, especially the macaroni penguin.

We worked on p is for penguin art to go with the theme!

And caught up with m is for monkey and g is for giraffe (displayed next week).

We continued our discussion of families this week, and have displayed what our families look like, currently in the hall. Each shows who we consider family, and who lives in our homes, showing however family is different.

Next week we will start looking at some family traditions and types of homes.

On the 29th, we are having the kindergarten vision and hearing screening.

Hope to see everyone Monday, and hope you had a good weekend.
