Hello!

Another full week of school. We took advantage of the sun earlier in the week while it lasted, with some outdoor games and activities. Hopefully it doesn’t rain too much these next few days. We have a new student in our class, who is starting to make some friends and learn our routines.

We worked on the letters n, c , k, and e, this week, working on adding to our spelling skills with kit, pin, can, set, ect.

Our class dove into our social studies work this week, working a lot on families and how each one is different. Our work will be posted on our board at the end of next week.

We started looking into our next animal: penguins! We discussed what we know about penguins (so far a lot!), and drew some penguins as a class.

We also worked on some aboriginal snowmen with Mrs. Chaves. They were sent home today.

Next week is literacy week, and to get us ready we worked with our big buddies on a number of mini projects. All the completed one’s are in the hallway.

First each student had to interview their buddy to gather information and learn more about each other.

Next everyone had to complete a mini book review about their favourite story. My class would draw, while the grade 5s would write for them.

If they finished that, they would roll for a story, where they would roll a dice and end up with a random character, srtting, and problem, and then have to write a story about it. The stories must have been driven by the little buddy, and written by the big buddy, so they were a little random.

Next week is literacy week, and Ruth King has a lot of activities prepared, such as guest readers and assemblies. I sent home a reading bingo card for you to try and accomplish. There will be prizes given out bases on a draw. Next Friday is “dress like your favourite story character” day, which I will remind students about throughout the week.

Have a good weekend, and see you Monday.

Hello!

And we are back in action this week. Hope everyone had a good holiday, I slept for most of it.

We started back with our letters this week, using the jolly phonics order of s, a, t, i, and p this week. We have also started practicing creating and spelling small words, such as at, it, sat, pit, ect.

With our numbers we have started focusing on specific numbers, this week 1 and 2, what they look like and how we can represent them in different ways.

We have started learning about ourselves and our families this week. We learned to draw a picture of our faces, and drew pictures of our favourite food, colour, thing, and what we want to be when we grow up. Lots of future chefs in our class.

We have also started playing catch up with our letter art, this week was “s is for snake” and “i is for insect”.

We worked on some more soccer skills this week in gym, I am thinking we will start throwing skills next week.

Next week we will look more into families, the similarities and differences between them, and even try to draw our families.

There will be a notice going home next week about a hearing and vision check at the school at the end of January, so be on the look out for it, as well as pizza forms.

Hope you had a good weekend, and see you on Monday.

Hello!

We made it to the first break!

We worked on math stations this week, learning to use two new holiday number stews.

We finished our second run through our letters, finishing off x, y, and z.

We practices drawing two pictures this week, a snowboarding snowman, and a Christmas tree.

On Tuesday we visited the m’akola seniors center to make crafts and sing our two front teeth song. It was very windy and rainy, but we lucked out with our walk, as the weather calmed down. After we decorated our picture frame, Santa visited us and gave everyone some reindeer food to put under the tree.

On Thursday we went skating with the other K classes. There were a lot of tumbles, but everyone learned to get themselves back up, and had a really fun time! I feel most of the students were better skaters than me, especially when they would drag me around the rink.

On Friday we had our PJ pancake breakfast as a school. It was a lot of fun, especially when Santa came for a visit and gave everyone a candy cane. A great way to end the first part of the year off, though they were really hyper for the rest of the day…

Enjoy your two weeks off, I plan on catching up on sleep, it’s going to be awesome. Happy holidays and see you Monday the 7th!

Hello!

With the countdown to the winter break on, we have been very busy finishing up our work.

We raced through our letter of the day this week, working on s, t, u, v, and w.

In math, we worked on numbers 1 to 6, reviewing to draw, write, and tally them. We also learned how to jump using a number line, as well as how to break a number into two smaller numbers.

We also made paper chain patterns! A classic craft for the holidays.

We finished off our investigation into owls, with completing our KWL, and sharing what we have learned.

Each student also shared their own learning, and combined it with their chalk art drawing of an owl. They are currently displayed in the hall.

The main takeaway seemed to be that owls can’t move their eyes, only their heads, and that they use talons to grab things.

During centers this week every student was given the chance to make an ornament craft. They will be coming home next week in a bundle.

Next week we will be going on two field trips. A short walking one to the m’akola housing center on Tuesday to work on a craft with some of the residents, and a skating trip on Thursday.

A reminder about the skating trip: every child must bring a helmet to wear.

Also next Friday we will be having a school wide PJ day and pancake breakfast, should be a lot of fun!

Have a good weekend and see you Monday.

Hello!

It was great to see so many come out to the winter concert! During our afternoon show they seemed to get a little stage fright, but for our evening show, they rocked it! Here are our two front teeth smiles we worked on.

We will be performing again on the 18th at the retirement center.

In math this week we continued with our colour by number worksheets. They are now displayed facing out our Windows for everyone to see.

Hopefully others can enjoy our pictures as they walk by.

We worked on the letters p, q, and r this week. We had to double up q and r on thursday, as our dress rehearsal went long.

We made o is for owls on Tuesday, they are getting really good at cutting and gluing.

We will be adding more owl work on the board next week, showing what we learned.

We have started our holiday crafts, so be prepared… We made simple reindeer. The crafts will be optional for those wanting to make them.

On Friday we built gingerbread houses with our big buddies. They had a lot of fun, and I are too much spare candy…

Enjoy the houses!

Next week is another full week. We will be building more holiday crafts to take home, working on the letters s, t, u, v, and w, making pattern paper chains of 10, and learning more about our emotions. Also next Friday a couple of students will help me lead a Zumba class for the school, exciting times ahead!

Have a good weekend, and see you Monday.

Hello!

Finally a full week! Feels like we haven’t had one of those in a while.

We worked on the letters K, L, M, N, and O. Trying to get through the rest of the alphabet before the holiday break.

We worked more on our numbers 1 to 5, and began practicing our math station rotation. Here are some of the stations we practiced this week.

We started looking into owls this week, listing what we know and what we want to learn as a class.

We also drew our own owls! They copied my example from the board.

To get ready for the holiday season we have started colouring some colour by number pictures. I will post a picture next week. So far they have been pretty good about recognising the number, though I feel they dislike my high expectations of no white spots.

On Friday we performed our first science experiment: Will it sink or float! The students had to first think about the object and make a hypothesis about the outcome. After their initial prediction, they were able to hold the object, and see whether their prediction changed. It was a lot of fun, and so much excitement. Here were some results.

Next week is another short one, with Monday off. Thursday is our winter concert. I will send out instructions Wednesday about the show, and how the evening show works. Tuesday I will send out some field trip notices for our last week of December. Also if you want November or December scholastic book orders, order soon because shipping takes about 2 weeks.

Have a good weekend and see you Tuesday.

Hello!

It was good to see so many come out for Parent Teacher meetings. Hopefully you got to see what we have been working on, and the improvements we have been making.

We started this week off with sorting, collecting different types of shapes and symbols. We used our collections to show what our numbers 1 to 10 look like.

We continued working on our letters with H, I, and J. Using our J letter, we learned about jaguars, and created a J is for jaguar art.

We also created an L is for lace craft as well, mainly because I feel we are falling behind with our letter art.

We started looking into the zones of regulation, a guide into the different emotions and reactions we express to each other. We learned that there is a green happy zone, a blue sad zone, a yellow silly or hyper zone, and a red angry and mad zone. We will soon learn strategies to help us move from some of the other zones to the green zone, building our self regulation skills.

Picture orders came in, so you will get them Monday. Next Friday is twin day, where students try and dress like each other. Also report cards should be coming out next week, if all goes well.

Have a good long weekend and see you Monday.

Hello!

A short week this week with Remembrance Day on Monday, and a TTOC on Tuesday. Lots of students sick this week as well.

We worked on the letters E, F, and G, and started making funny sentences with our words.

We spent more time this week with writing and drawing numbers 1 to 10. We will continue practicing what 1 to 10 looks like until the winter break. We also started collecting and sorting shapes to help show off our numbers.

Baby Tyson came for another visit on Wednesday, we saw how much he has grown and learned so far since his last visit.

We finished our discussion about the seasonal changes that have been occuring this last month. We created some artistic paintings and leave rubbing to showcase our learning. They are on display outside our room in the hallway.

Next week is our patent teacher interview on Thursday. I have sent home notices indicating which time each caregiver has been assigned. If there are any questions, let me know. Friday will be a Pro D day.

Have a good weekend, and see you on Monday.

Hello!

A little late this week with the update… It’ll be a short one.

We started out new worksheets with A, B, C, and D. So far so good, they managed to pick it up pretty fast.

We have been working hard on numbers 1 to 10, what it looks like using our 10 frames, and how to count.

We have been discussing Remembrance Day and what it means for those around the world. We talked about how we can spread peace through the school, which can help change the world for the better.

We also created poppy painting and doves carrying messages of hope. They are displayed outside our room.

Next week (this week) we will have parent teacher times sorted out, and messages sent home.

Hope you had a good weekend!

Happy Halloween!

We finished our first round of letters this week, with x, y, and q. Next week we will start again using the ABC order and a new work book.

We dive into counting and numbers to 10 this week with our number stews. Each stew had a recipe card that students had to follow. There was a witch stew, a colour stew, and a nature stew.

We also learned a few math game, such as roll to 30, and war.

On Tuesday we made some spooky ghosts to take home. Everyone cut their own face out, added to their individual ghost.

On Halloween, we played a new gym game called Trick or treat haunted house. Students had to sneak inside the haunted house zone to steal a candy, if they were slow, they would be caught by a monster.

We also learned to play Halloween bingo. It took them a while to understand what a full line is, but eventually they got it.

On Thursday we wrote in our journals about what we did in Halloween. Sounds like everyone had a fun time.

On Friday we learned about remembrance day, and why we wear poppies. Out big buddy class came down, and we created poppy wreaths for each class. They are displayed at the front of the school. Ours is the green one, and the others is our buddy class.

Next week we will be practicing a remembrance day poem for our assembly on Friday. We will also start looking at the weather changes, and Autumn leave colours.

Have a good weekend, and see you Monday.
